This is a print which contains an image in the upper half and text in the lower half. The images are of six men at a dock. Three white men in 1600’s dress in a small boat in the water. On the dock are two white men lowering a Native American man in bondage down to those in the boat. Behind the group is the sea with a large ship in the distance. The image is captioned: An Indian sent into slavery. Below the caption reads: war broke out with them in 1680,--the first year/--e colony, it was comparatively strong, well-armed,/led by West ; and the war was a vig-/, the savages gladly making peace within/--inning. But the conflict had worse results than/ To obtain the money for carrying it on, West/ adopted the plan of offering a price for every In-. Below in italics reads: -That fertile and Pleasant Province of Carolina, etc, By John/London, 1707. In Carroll’s Historical Coll., vol. ii. Midpoint of the first piece of text there is an indention and the words ``War with/the Indians' ' is in small print. The print contains hand written messages on the bottom reading “50 c1181 v2/Slavery-US,” and two blue stampings reading “N.Y. Public Library Pictures Collection.”
