  • Parasol
    This is an upper steel frame of a parasol. It was made in France in then 1700s. This parasol is rusted and it is missing the pole, handle and cover. With a cover and fully open, it would have a circumference of 2827mm.

    An English parasol of the 1820’s and 1830’s was a popular accessory. The parasols were large, typically with a diameter of almost a meter when fully open. This parasol is a popular pagoda shape is typical of its time displaying an elaborately carved ivory handle in a hook shape, a green silk cover and a brass collar on the handle with the decorative motif a crown with “London” written underneath. The floral design can be seen on the inside and outside of the cover. It has an ivory ring attached to the cover which slides down when shut to keep the parasol closed, enabling it to be held upside down.
  • Parasol
    As an early 20th century parasol made in Great Britain and is trimmed with red silk for the canopy. It is trimmed with lines of black silk and the strips of black satin have been wound around the head running from the crown to the base of the chin. The ferule is made from plastic/resin. The parasol has a wooden handle surmounted by a dolls head covered with beige cotton. This parasol was used by the music hall performer, Nellie Wallace (1870-1948 C.E.).
