Description
-
Williams (he/they/she) centers their work in portrait photography on the intersections of Black and queer experience, and this self-portrait is no exception. Williams sits in an armchair, staring into the distance with one leg propped on the chair and one hand casually pointing toward their groin. They wear a white tank top and presumably no pants. On the wallpapered wall above them hands a portrait of a young woman, that one can assume is their mother, and a candlestick. Below the portrait and to the left of Williams is a small table with a light blue vase or urn atop it. Their relaxed stance and bare feet betray the tension in their arms and distant stare, implying a conflict of emotions.
