The web based learning was a HUGE help. Saved a lot of time. I wish all my
classes were web-based!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think that web classes allow students to learn the material
sufficiently. I think that quizes should be manditory, it would help me to
better learn the material. I thought that there would be more realworld
experience in this class. Even though it is just an intro course, getting to
meet with real PR officials would increase the level of learning in the class.
The teacher loves teaching the class and shows great interest in the subject
matter. However, I feel that I learn a lot more attending classes such as prm
252, where real experience is applied. I do not like web based classes!!!!!!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I really liked that this course was web enhanced. It is difficult for me to
take down lots of notes and concentrate on what is being said at the same
time. With the notes on the web I could give me full attention to the
discussion and also the notes are very organized so that helps too.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks Chuck...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
chuck has a great personality that shows through his teaching.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chuck Hammersly is the best Professor I have ever had! And I don't think he's
being paid enough. I hope this University never looses his ability,
experience, and enthusiasim which is passed onto the students creating the
ultimately best College to be involved in and graduate from at NAU.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks for a GREAT semester Chuck!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chuck has great enthusiasm for parks and recreation. I really enjoyed having
him as my professor.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I only wish the class could have lasted longer. I left class each day with a
big smile on my face.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Teacher was awesome. Emailed whenever needed help, and replay was really
quick. Class was very organized, learned a ton about subject, and hope to have
further classes with Chuck.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was a pleasure taking this class. Thank you!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dr. Hammersley is a very good professor, i enjoy taking classes from him.
His enthusiasm for the subjects he teaches helps keep the class interesting!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PLAY Program was great! I enjoyed this class. I enjoy Chuck's lectures.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chuck is a great professor! Going to his class every morning was like having
a pep talk for the rest of the day. He is much more than a teacher, he is a
motivational speaker and a great resource regarding living a full and
meaningful life.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was unhappy with this class. If the essence of the class is how to plan a
good program then why didn't anyone come to class? Is a class not a program?
Why should I listen to an intstructor about program planning when the
instructor has given up on programming for his own class. Maybe a good
program should not be based on good attendance but I can assure you that a
good class never has trouble drawing students. This class should not be so
big and should not be web based or web enhanced. The only material we were
graded on was minute details from a random text. We were never tested on our
ability to plan a program only on our ability to regurgitate information
provided in a book or on a website. The overall message of the course was
unclear. Is someone plans a program where no one gets hurt are they good
programmer? Are they considered a proffesional in prm, simply because they
understand the concept of risk managment? This was far and above the worst
PRM class I have taken in my time
here at NAU. The course work was time consuming but not educational.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The strong web influence in this class was definitely a drawback. More of a
combination betweeen web and class lecture would have been more beneficial.
Pam's PRM252 was an example of a good balance. The web section made the
tests and quizzes to easy and no information was retained.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thought that having notes, quizes, assignments, and tests on the web is a
great idea. At any time you can get the notes or see how you are doing in
the class, that is very helpful. I really like the web based class.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chuck was an awesome teacher and I am looking foward to having him again.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overall the class was very informative and well organized. The only area
that I feel needs a little more development is the computer application
portion of this class. I feel as if there should have been a little more in
class lecture time spent on explaining how to do the program.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The class was challenging and the instructor was extremely enthusiastic!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I do not like web-enhanced classes. Although I do like having the class
notes on-line I would prefer tests and quizes to be in the classroom. I have
spoken to many students, and they agree with me. I know it seems easier to
have this stuff on-line, but in the long run it wastes time. Most students
prefer the traditional test day in class.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I felt that the CLASS program was an excellent addition to the course. I
feel that this is necessary software for any course facilitator. I felt that
the software was very user unfriendly, however Dr. Hammersley's workbook was
extremely helpful and explained all aspect of the program in detail. I feel
that any student that had problems with this section of the class was due to
their own laziness and not due to a lack of effort and informational
material provided by the instructor.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Web courses are divine!

The Parks and Recreation Management Certificate Program is excellent. I
will highly recommend it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
teacher looks down on students
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While I certainly benefited from the convenience of being able to take tests
at 2 in the morning in my skivvies, I am still not sold on Web Based Learning.
I can see it being valuable as a tool to offer material to far away students;
however, offering web based classes to locals seems to be a way of maximizing
profit margins and continuing the trend of turning state universities into
over
priced trade schools.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chuck is always willing to spend time to help. Class is organized and
structured well.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The asssignments seemed extremely vague, as if the instructor knew what he
wanted to see, but students could not be sure of exactly what that was.

It is hard to attend or become involved in a class that provides no
incentive to come to class
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tough project... takes time but great class!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I feel that the web based testing is somewhat too easy. In addition, I find
that I forget the information more quickly with this format. While it is a
convenient form of learning, it also provides the student with an
opportunity to take a lax approach to their studies. In my experience this
results in less information absorbed initially, and even less information
retained. Still, Chuck's enthusiasm, real life examples, and up to date
information, in lecture, are enough to balance the material for any
motivated student.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PRM 383 was an informative class. The term project definitely challenges the
student to completely understand the concepts and practices of a commercial
recreation business.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
C Hammersley is very positive and enthusiastic. Unfortunately, web based
classes do not work out well for me because it is too easy for me to slack
off and not attend class.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Professor needs to take into consideration the point of veiw of the student
asking for help, instead of reading e-mails on his computer while the
student is trying to talk to him. At this point, the student is only
assuming that someone at the desk two feet away is listening, only to find
out that not a word was heard when the professor chuckles at what he has
read and looks up
with a blank stare that says, did you have something to say? Also, when
asking for help or just coming to check on something with the professor, the
student does not enjoy being put down and certainly could do without the
professor
making the student feel stupid. But other than that, what a great course!!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Great class and a great professor
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chuck is an excellent instructor and a great advisor. He has done a
wonderful job with this class and the on-line services are awesome.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was very happy with the two web assisted courses I took this semester
(275, 383). I beleive we covered a lot of important material, and Chuck was
very helpful. Although, I believe that some more thought provoking
activities in place of some of the quizes may be more beneficial to putting
out better prepared graduates. Yet, I am starting to notice the benefit of
the repetition
(from previous courses) in the quizes. Obviously, I am not yet a graduate or
a professional in the field of recreation, but I do think the above seems
quite evident. Also, I think it is important to mention that Chuck has a lot
of students and many of us have a lot of questions; yet, their are only so
many hours in the day and Chuck keeps very busy. Would an assistant of some
sort be beneficial?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dr. Hammersley is an excellent example of a competent and versital
professor. His ability to challenge his students, while providing advice and
direction, has led many of us to excell in opportunities outside of our
programs. Dr. Hammersley is truely an inspiration to all members of the NAU
community.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I truly enjoyed this class. Except, the textbook is the worst text book I
have ever encountered in a classroom setting.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chuck is an amazing professor! My only piece of constructive criticism for
him would be that he needs to be careful in being so aggressively critical -
it really doesn't encourage students to interact/participate in the lectures
or ask questions about things.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
chuck gives great explanations and stories to help us learn.

Dr. Hammersley is a great teacher. He is always there to answer any
questions that one may have through emails. I find him very thorough and
knowledgeable in his teaching.

Dr. Hammersley was an excellent in helping whenever I asked a question, he
was always available to help. I enjoyed class and I am very glad that
courses are available over the internet so I can further my education at my
age. Thank you for having professors with Dr. Hammersley knowledge to
instruct classes.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think there should be more detailed and clear guidelines to the
assignments. I found it to be frustrating to recieve a low grade on a
project I spent so much time on, and didn't realize that I wasn't doing the
right thing. I think more details for the large assignments would be nice.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
interesting course. my first web course, so i didn't know what to expect.
hard to rate the professor though he was available the few times i contacted
him
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chuck is an awesome guy and one hell of a teacher.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Every time I have approached the instructor this semester about problems I
was having in this class I felt I was not given his full attention.
Sometimes it is nice when the instructor treats you like a person, not just
another student he has taking a web course.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I enjoyed the class very much, particularly for my first web class.
Everything was outstanding.
