I really enjoyed this course. Chuck was very inspiring and enthusiastic
about parks and recreation!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The was a very interesting and fun class, i would recomened it to any
student who likes to learn.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
on question 13, I instead of major I would like to minor in Parks and
Recreation.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was, at first, very apprehensive about taking a web-based course (PRM
220). The computer program seemed a bit daunting at first, and I wasn't sure
if I'd be able to figure out how to submit my tests, etc. However, I have
never been more delighted with how a class is set up! Less time spent taking
notes (waste of paper), reading handouts (waste of paper), listening to
lecture (waste of
time) and taking paper tests. The best part is that I was able to complete
my assignments and read the subject material when it was convenient for ME.
Think about how much better it would be for all college students if more
courses were taught this way. Plus, expenses would decrease with less paper
products per class. I was able to submit my PRM assignments ahead of time,
which worked out really well because most of the time major projects all
seem to be due on the same week, or worse, same day. One additional
highlight: this course made me be more self-motivated. Since there wasn't
much mandatory class time, I had to be
on top of when my assignments were due. I think this is an important skill
for college students to gain, and one that is seriously lacking in
university settings. I can't praise this course enough, and would highly
recommend it to anyone. The assignments Hammersley picked out also greatly
increased my interest and passion for recreation. Great job!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am not particularly fond of web based classes. I thought a parks and
recreation class had a little more involvement.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mr. Hammersley was one of the best instructors that I have had in my college
career. He has excellent advice, input, and stories that make me excited
about my major in Parks and Rec.!!! Thanks Chuck! -Kristine Mitchell
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not used to doing everything on the web: teacher seemed unwilling to give a
second chance.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mr. Hammersley loves what he teaches and it is contagious!!!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Feels like paying money to teach myself, essentialy buying a degree. I do
understand that much of this major is experience based though.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Going to Chuck's class is like listening to a motivational speaker. He gives
great insight to the field, and has a genuine interset in the subject he
teaches.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I enjoyed the class. Chuck was very enthusiastic and knew the subject well.
I also liked the convenience of the web access
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I liked this class a lot. Dr. Hammersley is an excellent professor and is
very knowledgeable of the field of Parks and Recreation.

Chuck is AWESOME!!!!!!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There was some information for test questions that I felt were not presented
in the text book and/or notes that were online.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pam Foti is the best instructor at NAU.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Good class, didn't have to go most of the time.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chuck rocks.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chuck is a decent instructor but very intense which is easily translated as
near aggressiveness. A nice guy once familiar with him though.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This class didn't take a lot of work. Nothing compared to how much work was
done in 383. I don't think it needs that much busy work, but I do think it
needs more application assignments that are based on the book. All I really
learned was the class software project. Also, in your module notes, when you
give a list of something, definitions or significant facts about each item
in
the list would be helpful in learning. Just having a list doesn't teach me
anything. Other than that thanks for the experience with the Class software.
I am sure I'll find it useful.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chuck is a great teacher. He is extremely enthusiastic about this course.
Attending his lectures was informative and fun.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chuck Hammersley is a dynamic teacher dedicated to quality of his work.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This class helped me realize which direction I would like to go in my field,
program planning.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chuck did a great job on help me understand the field of Park and Rec. He
has a lot of energy and make me what to do better. Very happy with this
class.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The computer application project needs to be available in more places than
the Forestry Computer Lab. We should have started the project earlier in the
semester that way we would have had more time to complete the assignment,
also there should have been a person available at all times to help with the
project.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chuck is a cool guy
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
hammersley is the man..awesome class...did not particularly enjoy the work
book assignment...overall, the assignment was easy, but feel that i did not
get a lot out of it by just doing the work book...wasn't sure why everything
was set up the way it was in the program, and the order of that each task
needed to be completed in, in order to do another i did not totally
understand and didn't
seem to be explained...other than that, class was awesome

It is hard to attend or become involved in a class that provides no
incentive to come to class
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tough project... takes time but great class!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I feel that the web based testing is somewhat too easy. In addition, I find
that I forget the information more quickly with this format. While it is a
convenient form of learning, it also provides the student with an
opportunity to take a lax approach to their studies. In my experience this
results in less information absorbed initially, and even less information
retained. Still, Chuck's enthusiasm, real life examples, and up to date
information, in lecture, are enough to balance the material for any
motivated student.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PRM 383 was an informative class. The term project definitely challenges the
student to completely understand the concepts and practices of a commercial
recreation business.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
C Hammersley is very positive and enthusiastic. Unfortunately, web based
classes do not work out well for me because it is too easy for me to slack
off and not attend class.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Professor needs to take into consideration the point of veiw of the student
asking for help, instead of reading e-mails on his computer while the
student is trying to talk to him. At this point, the student is only
assuming that someone at the desk two feet away is listening, only to find
out that not a word was heard when the professor chuckles at what he has
read and looks up
with a blank stare that says, did you have something to say? Also, when
asking for help or just coming to check on something with the professor, the
student does not enjoy being put down and certainly could do without the
professor
making the student feel stupid. But other than that, what a great course!!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Great class and a great professor
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chuck is an excellent instructor and a great advisor. He has done a
wonderful job with this class and the on-line services are awesome.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was very happy with the two web assisted courses I took this semester
(275, 383). I beleive we covered a lot of important material, and Chuck was
very helpful. Although, I believe that some more thought provoking
activities in place of some of the quizes may be more beneficial to putting
out better prepared graduates. Yet, I am starting to notice the benefit of
the repetition
(from previous courses) in the quizes. Obviously, I am not yet a graduate or
a professional in the field of recreation, but I do think the above seems
quite evident. Also, I think it is important to mention that Chuck has a lot
of students and many of us have a lot of questions; yet, their are only so
many hours in the day and Chuck keeps very busy. Would an assistant of some
sort be beneficial?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dr. Hammersley is an excellent example of a competent and versital
professor. His ability to challenge his students, while providing advice and
direction, has led many of us to excell in opportunities outside of our
programs. Dr. Hammersley is truely an inspiration to all members of the NAU
community.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I truly enjoyed this class. Except, the textbook is the worst text book I
have ever encountered in a classroom setting.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chuck is an amazing professor! My only piece of constructive criticism for
him would be that he needs to be careful in being so aggressively critical -
it really doesn't encourage students to interact/participate in the lectures
or ask questions about things.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
chuck gives great explanations and stories to help us learn.

I always enjoy taking classes with Chuck. His enthusiasm and intensity for
the subject matter serve as constant reminders of why I decided to study
this major in the first place. I noticed that all of the online tests for
this class had deadlines that were more finite than in past years/courses.
Instead of our tests/quizzes being due on a certain date by 5pm and then our
suffering points
taken off for any submitted after that, no late assignments were accepted at
all this time. I think this is a much better system and I encourage its
continuation in future courses where tests/quizzes are offered online for
PRM students. Although I know my grade may not reflect this because I missed
the 5pm deadline for one quiz and one test this semester, I think that this
new grading system holds us as students more accountable for our
assignments.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The website seemed to me to be disorganized, cluttered...there was way too
much busy work. The quizzes and tests were ridiculous. The website should be
an effective learning tool, not a complete hassle. Same with the business
plan. It was an inconvienence to the people who helped us find our
information, and what it was, was discouraging. It didn't teach us how to
make it work, it taught us how impossible it is and how much work it is to
get some of the information. All it taught was appreciation for those who do
it. I WANTED TO LEARN HOW to do it! The assignment needs to be more within
our reach. The book...I have never
spent so much useless time with a book. I am very discouraged with this
class, I feel as though I learned nothing. I know it could be a great class,
it has great intentions, but there needs to be a lot more effort put into it
to make it an effective class in the learning process. I am a community
commercial emphasis, this was an intro to community recreation, this needs
to be an influential class for those of us who are planning on working in
this field. Please consider what you would want us to know as our employer.
Teach us those things. Make us apply those areas.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Great Teacher. He has a wealth of knowledge and he is always very honest.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chuck is a great instructor and while this class had a huge project that was
tedious, I learned everything I needed to know to start my own business.
Chuck went above and beyond what was required in providing the students with
information and web sites. I enjoyed this class very much and feel I gained
valuable real-life knowledge.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A good class. Some business people I have talked to disagree wholeheartedly
with the way the business plan was done. Could a professional businessperson
teach this class instead?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I feel that this class put a certain twist in it that others do not creating
an atmosphere that is more memerable. I liked this class and the support
from the instructor and encouraged support from the class mates. I learn
better with the online tests and quizes. This has been a more difficult
class, yet benifical.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The business plan was very hard. I did not really get anything more than a
whole lot of stress out of the experience, and I now know I don't want to go
into commercial recreation.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks Chuck, I really learned a lot!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I learned a lot from this class

It has been many years since I have taken a class. Ecotourism was a great
learning experience. Dr. Hammersley's class was well prepared and presented.
He made the assignments and tests interesting and challenging. He was always
an email away for help and guidance. I'm glad I chose NAU to finish my
degree.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Learned a lot about environmental tourism.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Great class. Felt that some of the instructions for the assignments were
confusing. Learned a lot. :)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I enjoyed this class the most. I learned a lot of the material, and most of
the assignments were very effective in the learning process.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have but one problem with the web class style. I would recieve e-mails
about extra credit for on campus students only which excludes all web base
students. If we are all taking the same class and on the same point system,
I feel it only fair that we are all given the same oppurtunities. It's not a
big deal....just a thought I had.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wonderful class would be very benificial to the HA program
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I loved this class, Dr. Hammersley is very organized and he presents the
subject matter in a interesting way.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dr. Charles Hammersley is one of the main reasons the wheels spin round in
the Parks and Recreation Management program. He truly kicks ass. Thanks
Chuck for another great semester!

I feel that Chuck was availible for the students. Chcuk had gotten
behind in grading and was unable to look over some drafts of the term project
which was frustrating.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think the tests are WAAAAAY too easy. It's like you're just doing a study
guide. I think the class would be better if it were taught as a regular class
with the internet, not just only the internet
