Walkup and Lovett; “The Dreamteam of Development that took Arizona Normal College to a Not-so-Normal, Unified University.”
Starting as Arizona Normal College in 1899, the school had a very low student enrollment and the size of the campus was less than one third than it is today. The overview of the school back then was to attempt to grow and get a higher education for the benefit of the Flagstaff community and individuals. During this time period, University of Arizona was known as the central college which made Arizona Normal College Flagstaff inferior and forgotten. As time started to change for the good Presidents like J. Lawrence Walkup and Clara Lovett came into office and took action into making the best of Arizona Normal College. Both presidents created different impacts that made Northern Arizona University what it is today. They implemented structure, growth, diversity, and culture.
