Description
-
This photo by Dorothea Lange captures Mexican migrant workers picking cantaloupe for thirty cents an hour. Migrant workers faced up to twelve hour days in the sun without breaks, water, or adequate facilities, such as outdoor bathrooms. Some laborers reported sharing only one pitcher or can of water in extreme cases. Besides the threat of heat stroke and dehydration, workers also faced health issues from exposure to harmful pesticides like DDT.
