Mexicanas
Photographs have a historical value they help us understand that moments can be frozen in time, it gives us a glimpse into the world that had different attitudes and experiences. The camera is used as a tool to immortalize indigenous peoples and their ancient cultures, it also contributes to the communication of the world and allows us to see the evolution of Mexican women from La India Bonita to La Chica Moderna. Mexican modernism is a pivotal moment in art history because it shows how artists in Mexico responded to the Mexican Revolution and how art was used as political activism. The art created by Tina Modotti and Flor Garduño helps us better understand the way women used to help distinguish themselves from post-revolutionary Mexico. The art created by these women helped paved the way for more women such as Maria Izquierdo, Leonora Carrington, and Lola Alvarez Bravo and many more to create art as well as contributing to the feminist movement and the new female identity of the modern women.
