Mexican Revolution: Origin

Location: Mexico

Date: 1910-1920

The Mexican Revolution started with the dissatisfaction from the policies and elitism of Porfirio Díaz, who only favored the wealthy. It consisted of a long and bloody struggle around several factions of shifting alliances. The revolution included groups as well as famous leaders. For example, Francisco Madero, Pascual Orozco, Pancho Villa, and Emiliano Zapata. The leaders and groups participated in a costly conflict and war. The Mexican revolution ended a 30-year dictatorship and established a constitutional republic. Even though the 1917 draft of the constitution was created, the violence continued until the 1930s.
