Tie on pocket with embroidery. Pockets were often made from old clothing or incorporated pieces of other clothing, and these pockets integrate materials from different dates.
Towards the end of the 19th Century wealthier fashionable women began to have pockets sewn into the seams of their dresses. But children, older women and those from the poorer classes continued to wear tie on pockets.
